What Is TED?
TED stands for trans-epidermal delivery system. It is a revolutionary, FDA-approved treatment for hair restoration that is non-invasive and painless! Until recently, a hair transplant was the only way to achieve effective hair restoration. Those days are now mostly gone. While there are times when hair transplant surgery is necessary, most people can experience the benefits of hair restoration without surgery. TED will reverse most types of hair loss as long as there are still hair roots present in the area.

How Does TED Work?
TED utilizes low-frequency “acoustic” sound waves to temporarily open the
skin on the scalp while a high-pressure air system drives a specially formulated hair serum into the hair follicles. The hair serum contains growth factors
and peptides that:
- Promote blood flow to the scalp
- Improve the overall health and shine of your hair
- Increase hair length
- Improve hair thickness
- Awaken dormant hair follicles so that they can grow
- Anchor the hair you already have to reduce shedding
What Does TED Treat?
TED can be used by anyone who wants to increase hair thickness, strength, and shine. It is specifically meant to reverse hair loss caused by:
- Hormone imbalances (PCOS, thyroid disease, postpartum, menopause)
- Hair loss due to stress
- Recent illness (COVID-19)
- Damaged hair due to years of using harsh chemicals and dyes
- Scalp trauma from twisting and pulling the hair into weaves, tight buns, and ponytails
How is TED different from PRP?
PRP treatments have gained popularity over the years, but they are
not FDA-approved treatments for hair loss. In fact, there are no studies showing PRP is an effective treatment for hair loss.

PRP treatments require you to have your blood drawn so it can be spun down to extract out the plasma layer. It is then injected back into your scalp on the theory it will help hair growth. However, many people with hair loss have low growth factors in their plasma. Instead, their plasma is full of stress hormones and hair growth inhibitors (dihydrotestosterone, 5 alpha-reductase inhibitors, and other androgens), which is why they are losing their hair in the first place!
Unlike TED, PRP treatments are invasive, time-consuming, and painful – you must have your scalp numbed to tolerate the injections. Additionally, these injections cause trauma to the scalp, which leads to posttreatment bleeding, swelling, and a small, but real, risk of infection, scarring, and/or nerve damage if they are not properly performed.
How effective is TED?
TED has over a clinically-proven 90% patient satisfaction rate. The only treatment more effective at restoring hair loss than TED is a hair transplant! Most people require four treatments over the span of about 10 months. The first three treatments are spaced four- six weeks apart, with the fourth treatment six months later. Thereafter it is recommended to have an annual maintenance treatment to help maintain the results.
What Should I Expect During the Procedure?
This procedure can take anywhere from 30-45 minutes, but expect to spend an hour in our office as we take before photos at every visit to help you track your progress. There are no needles, no injections, and no pain associated with the procedure. You will hear and feel the device vibrating, similar to an electric toothbrush. Some women also report their scalp begins to feel warm as it is treated.
What is the Downtime?
None – other than you cannot wash your hair or perform any activities that make you sweat (exercise, sex, sit in a hot bath) for the first 24 hours.
Can Anyone Undergo This Treatment?
Yes, but you must still have hair follicles present to benefit from TED. Therefore, we require an in-person consultation to make sure you are a candidate before you undergo this treatment.
